Minnows Iceland Dumps England out of European Championship, Italy Dismisses Defending Champions Spain

England this evening suffered a humiliating exit from Euro 2016 in hands of Iceland following a 2-1 defeat.
England captain Wayne Rooney opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Raheem Sterling was fouled early in the game, but they were quickly pegged back as Iceland cancelled out Rooney's effort just two minutes later when Ragnar Sigurdsson poked home from close range.

Their misery was compounded as Kolbeinn Sigthorsson scored the winning goal only a few minutes later to extend England's run of not winning a knockout clash since 2006.

Iceland will now face Euro 2016 hosts France at the quarter-final stage in Paris on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier on today, Antonio Conte masterminded another Italian victory as they dumped out defending champions Spain, Juventus centre back Giorgio Chiellini reacted quickest to score the opener, pouncing on Eder's free-kick rebound.

Southampton striker Graziano Pelle scored Italy's second goal as well as his tally in the competition, by latching onto fine long ball before finishing.

The Italians will now face Germany in last eight after their 3-0 victory over Slovakia on Sunday.
